Diamonds are not a Girl's Best Friend

Say "I Love You" with a Massage

Who ever came up with the idea that diamonds are a girl's best friend? We all know what women really want. Massage!

This year, skip the expensive diamond necklace and give her a relaxing therapeutic massage. To make the deal even sweeter, surprise her with a clean house and a romantic meal or some wine when she gets home after her massage. You're guaranteed to put a smile on her face and remind her why she chose you in the first place. Did you know???

Did you know??? In 2001, a study was performed to determine the effectiveness of massage therapy vs. relaxation in reducing lower back pain. 2 groups, a massage and a relaxation group, were used to perform the study. After 6 months, the massage group experienced less lower back pain, less depression and anxiety, and better sleep quality than the relaxation group. The massage therapy group also showed improved range of motion and their serotonin and dopamine levels were higher than the relaxation group. I think it's really neat to see science backing up claims that massage really does decrease your pain and make you happy!

You can check out the study summary here: http://informahealthcare.com/doi/abs/10.3109/00207450109149744?prevSearch=keywordsfield%253A%2528Massage%2529&searchHistoryKey.

Massaging the Neck and Shoulders

I have had several clients ask me about teaching couples massage classes. I would like to do this someday, but I am not ready to take that step yet. In the meantime, here's a video showing you how to massage the neck and shoulders. This lady does a lot of similar moves to mine, so perhaps your significant other can attempt to re-create what I do for you in the office at home.

Why Does Massage Work in Athletes?

There is limited research on the biochemical processes that take place to decrease muscle soreness in athletes after massage. This article rules out several potential reasons why athletes experience faster recovery rates and decreased muscle soreness after massage. Unfortunately, we still have little concrete evidence as to why massage decreases pain. I find this topic very interesting. I know from personal experience that massage decreases my muscle pain, and it feels great! There are a lot of theories out there, but no solid evidence of its effectiveness. If anyone has more information than me (from a reputable source), I'd love to read it! I can't wait until they find out why it makes us feel so good. Until then, I'll just have to be satisfied with my personal feelings about its effectiveness.
